In many countries, the wedding rings are worn on the left ring finger. If you're not sure which finger is the ring finger, start with the thumb and count to four. That's it. The left ring finger is said to have a vein that goes straight to the heart. That's why people tend to wear their wedding rings on this finger. How Bad Are iPods for Your Hearing?Hearing loss is more common than ever before. About 16% of American adults have an impaired ability to hear speech, and more than 30% of Americans over age 20 — an estimated 55 million people — have lost some high-frequency hearing, according to a new study published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The finding has got experts — and concerned parents — wondering anew: Does listening to loud music through headphones lead to long-term hearing loss? Brian Fligor, director of diagnostic audiology at Children's Hospital Boston, explains how much damage your headphone habit might cause — and how to mitigate your risk. Q: How much hearing loss does an iPod cause?A: It depends on the person, it depends on how long you're listening, and it depends on the level at which you're setting your iPod.Q:iPod在多大程度上导致了听力丧失?A:那取决于个人,取决于你每次听音乐多长时间,以及你在iPod上设置的音量水平。If you're using the earbuds that come with an iPod and you turn the volume up to about 90% of maximum and you listen a total of two hours a day, five days a week, our best estimates are that the people who have more sensitive ears will develop a rather significant degree of hearing loss — on the order of 40 decibels (dB). That means the quietest sounds audible are 40 dB loud. Now, this is high-pitched hearing loss, so a person can still hear sounds and understand most speech. The impact is going to be most clearly noted when the background-noise level goes up, when you have to focus on what someone is saying. Then it can really start to impair your ability to communicate. This would happen only after about 10 years or so or even more of listening to a personal audio device. One patient I had used his headphones instead of earplugs when he was on his construction job. He thought as long as he could hear his music over the sound of his saws, he was protecting his ears — because he liked the sound of his music but didn't like the sound of the construction noise. He had a good 50 dB to 55 dB of noise-induced hearing loss at 28 years old. We asked a few pointed questions about when he was having difficulty understanding people, and his response was classic. "When I'm sitting at home with the TV off, I can understand just fine," he said, "but when I go out for dinner, I have trouble." There is huge variation in how people are affected by loud sound, however, and this is an area where a number of researchers are conducting studies. Certainly a huge part of this is underlying genetics. We know how much sound causes how much hearing loss based on studies that were conducted in the late '60s and early '70s, before employers were required to protect workers' hearing in noisy work environments. What was found is that when people are exposed to a certain level of noise every day for a certain duration, they're going to have a certain degree of hearing loss on average. But the amount of hearing loss might differ by as much as 30 dB between people who had the toughest ears and those with the most tender ones — a huge variation. Unfortunately, we don't know who has the tougher ears and who has the tender ones until after they've lost their hearing. So, as a clinician, I have to treat everyone as if they had tender ears.

This contest made people really work for the big prize - but the chance to get VIP tickets to the MTV Europe Music Awards and to possibly announce the winner of a major category on stage during the show motivated more than 3,500 people to apply. Sony Ericsson picked 100 lucky winners (based on their personal submissions) who made the journey from London to Liverpool over a 9 day period for the first ever "Fan Walk." Sony Ericsson was a sponsor of the awards which made it possible to not only to get the tickets but to secure the opportunity for one big music fan to announce the winner of the "best star" category while millions of people across the continent were watching. This campaign works on multiple fronts. First of all, Sony Ericsson was able to secure a major incentive to get people excited and to enter - that being the chance to announce an award winner at the show. Next, there is a natural product tie-in for Sony Ericsson - having people listen to music via their Walkman phone as well as map their route via the phone, take photos, capture s, text friends and more. All of this content is on the campaign website, provided a showcase of great stories by music fans who are now even more bonded with Sony Ericsson than before. The campaign also worked across multiple countries and brought together winners for all over Europe, so building even more local and regional buzz about the campaign. This campaign is a great example of never letting a "we could never do that" comment in a brainstorm stop you from thinking. And it also shows the power or creating experiences for people to get to know and love your brand, who will in turn tell everyone about thier unique involvement and build a brands reputation through positive word-of-mouth. Well done on all fronts! A British dog named Mugly has taken the title of the World#39;s Ugliest Dog at the annual contest, which was held in Northern California on Friday. Mugly is an 8-year-old Chinese crested with several ugly features, including a crooked nose, white whiskers and large, beady eyes, which helped it win the award, notes The Associated Press. You walk past them one day and they smile at you and suddenly you are walking the same way every day, just to see that smile again. They slowly approach moving closer to you and giving you a little more insight each day about who they are. They have an air of confidence but a shy demeanor. Finally they say hi and you practically drop to your knees with excitement. This is how a manipulator starts. They usually come into your lives slowly as they you and figure out your body language, likes and dislikes and even your wardrobe. I was told once that the wisest person in the room was the one who wasn't saying anything, they were listening to everything that was going on. I realized when I became that quiet person, it wasn't just the listening that they were doing. We study you and capture every moment until you become the target. We follow and know every move you make. Then we move in for the kill, get what we want and leave. So how do you know who we are? Here is a not-so-simple list of things that you can watch for. 1. Attitude Not so simple to see if you are aly hooked, but you can spot it in people. Most of the time you know when people are giving you attitude but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about how they carry themselves and it isn't an attitude that makes you step back and decide to get defensive. They have perfected what they need to send off as their attitude to make you think you should approach them or allow them to approach you. If you look closely though there is a fine line between who they really are and who they have perfected for you. Trust your first instinct because your subconscious mind may be seeing more than you do. Keep your guard up and watch for theirs to fall occasionally. 2.Too Good To Be True Like everyone says, amp;;if it's too good to be true.amp;; They are right. If they have too much in common with you be very leery, they have probably studied enough to know about things you may like and can bullshit their way through it. We, I mean they, are really good at that. The perfect sales people. Some of them can you in a split second. 3.Saving the World If someone swoops in when they see you are down, they could be a good friend, or they may have just been waiting for the opportunity to sweep you off your feet and save the world. I have a lot of friends that swoop in when I need them, but I can always tell when someone is trying to take advantage of a situation. I guess it is intuition again and hard to explain. But they want to make your world perfect and be your savior. They will constantly be a shoulder to cry on and when the time is right they will pull you in. 4.Overly Reasonable When they seem perfect and want to be over reasonable about things, like you spending time with your friends, usually there is a hook later. Once you think that they are perfect and you are hooked, they will start cutting you off from the people who love you. It may be a slow process of one friend at a time or one place, like your favorite bar, at a time. Know who your real friends are before you start relying on a new person who says you shouldn't listen to them. Stay on your toes and be watchful of someone who slowly tells you that other people are taking advantage of you.I have a daughter that doesn't quit seem to get it when people tell her to pay attention to things. She doesn't seem to catch on when people try to tell her what other people might be doing to her. I have to sit down and give her a list and then point things out after they happen. That is not uncommon because she is still kind of young but I worry about what is going to happen when I am not there? Who is going to tell her that she is being manipulated? If I could just teach her to be on her toes and watch for these signs then maybe she will learn. Having a watchful eye and knowing what to look for helps, but some manipulators are very good and they know what you will be looking for. Also, some people who act like this may truly be good people and you don't want to let them go. How do you know which they are? You have to watch and trust your own judgment two things that are very hard to do when someone is flattering you and saving your world. It may be a slow process of one friend at a time or one place,像你最喜欢的酒吧,at a time.在你决定依靠一个陌生人who says you shouldn't listen to them的时候,先搞清楚谁是你真正的朋友。
