Before the formal contract is drawn up, wed like to restore the main points of the agreement. This is the draft of the sales contract for the canned ham you are going to buy. OK, let me write it into the contract. 半个句型要记牢draw up (起草,制定)Tip:起草合同还可以用 draft, draft the contract。 We're in the after-show, we are talking today about how our young girls are in crisis. How we are raising a generation of daughters with no self-esteem. The Dove campaign for real beauty launched a global study found that only 2% of women around the world will describe themselves as beautiful. And that's what we are teaching our daughters; we are passing that message on to our daughters. Earlier in the show we were talking about your young daughter, er, who is 3 years old and obsessed with being beautiful.(Yes) And you wanted to say what?My question to Dr Roben is, Phlisha S talked about that Mirror that, to look at your inner beauty but as a mother, I, I have failed to show my daughter that Mirror. So, what can I do when she comes out and says:I hate myself. I don't look beautiful.Phlisha also said that the beauty has to start from within. So to give your daughter that message that she's beautiful, you're gonna have to first see that you are.I've got something to say.(Yes)I kinda disagree with you.(Okay, good,so tell me)that because my wife is very beauti, beautiful and she said that she felt like that when she was younger. So, I have a 6-year-old daughter that she finds beauty in everyone. So, I, you know, I think she's felt..you know, her beauty for years now. So, if anyone, it would've been our 6-year-old daughter that would've felt that way instedad of my 3-year-old daughter.I, I hear you except for I listen to what your wife said about herself.(But she, but she said)I'm wondering, I'm wondering did you hear what your wife said? No,I heard her say when she was young. She had it ... and because we've been talked about it and she said, you know...So, let me just, let me ask you. Do you think you are beautiful?Right now where I'm in my life, yes. And tell me what's beautiful about you?I'm at professionally in a place where I help people. I, I um, give back to my church. I'm helping my community. Those are tasks.(Well, and)I wanna know what in your core do you celebrate everyday that you wake up?I'm raising children, which is a difficult task and I think I'm instilling in my children to be responsible and loving and caring and we have a nurturing home and so those...You don't sound to me that you feel like you are beautiful. I, I heard your list. Em, I hear what you are saying that you're doing and accomplishing. I also watch your daughter who is hating herself. But you also didn't see my 6-year-old daughter that is beautiful and loves everyone else. So, so this you know what I love about this Oprah? This is great. Because what is happening is that we are getting into this, I'm gonna protect my ego and the reason I'm gonna address this is 'cause your child's life is on the line. Your child is in trouble. She is in danger. It is not happening outside of your home, it is happening in your home. It is not to blame you. But when I hear parents say, and this is now for everybody 'cause part of what I wanna talk about on the after show is, the question for all of us is how have we injured our children? Not have we, how have we injured them? It's not a question about if we have 'cause we have. So, to you, and this is not for you to answer right now, your response was I disagree with you. We have a happy home. It would be our 6-year-old. I, I got all that. What I'm saying is there's a 3-year-old who you're getting y to lose. And so we can either focus on what's happening and what has she picked up that's making her so focused. You know, magazines and how have we not protected her spirit and her mind. Where did we fall short and if you can't answer that and all you can do is tell me what a great job you've done. And it's not just you, this is,this is...Yeah, but you know this is a classic thing that happens in families where you know, my generation we call them the black sheep, and you're headed for having what we call a black sheep. You have a child at three year old who's saying to you is in strong tantrums and saying I hate you. Wait till that child turn 13 or 10 or,you know what I'm saying? But I'm just ..let me finish (OK),and so, the mistake that a lot of people make that I've seen from interviewing over the years is, is..they will say,but I did the same thing with my other children. And my other children are perfect. My other children don't have, this isn't an issue. My other children are wonderful. We did the same thing. Every child needs something different and you can't do the same kind of parenting. The same kind of parenting doesn't work for every..if you have 2 children, you can not parent them the same. Yes or no? That is true. So it means, it means, what, what you are doing in the house for that one child and you all know this if you come from more than one person in your family. Your parents do the same thing and they say well how come you acted this way, (right) and she acted that way. Isn't that true?It is. That's true and the other thing is what we all... (Everybody does that)Right. My, my point is exactly what you said. I mean maybe we are doing something wrong and that if we could change it, we are all for it. But I'm saying you know, it seemed like it would happen with the older kid..Well,what I'm saying is...let's get rid of the, let's get rid of the "maybe".Can you answer his question, why didn't it happen to the older kid? That's what he's saying.Well, this is,yeah, well I wanna really address that because you don't know what your older child's feeling. This is very very important. Kids who don't open their mouth about how they are feeling, who say they're feeling great, who do really well, who itself. It does not mean, particularly in girls, that they are not struggling with other ways of self-hatred that you don't think so.(Not at all) Just, I love that you are asking because you are really gonna help educate all of us. (OK!) That just because one child(Looks perfect)looks like they escaped. (yeah!) They didn't... 200809/48658Have you ever had a great first date and then never heard from the guy again? Trust me, we've all been there. Hi, I'm Marie Forleo, life coaching author, and I'm gonna share with you three dating mistakes that can be keeping you single. Here's my first dating mistake: It's believing that a relationship is gonna save you. I'd like to call this my Jerry Maguire school of that's gonna complete me. Do you remember in that movie when Renee Zellweger and Tom Cruise told each other: "You complete me." Well, it was awesome and it's really heart-fluttering on the big screen. But in reality, that kind of mindset can keep you thinking that something outside of yourself is really gonna solve all your problems, a relationship or a special man. In reality, there is nothing that's gonna solve all your problems or make your life better. So if you can start getting into your life and getting really interested and really trust the idea that you're complete as you are, when you show up on that date, you are gonna be a lot more attractive and that guy is gonna really wanna take you home.Mistake No.2: trotting out those hard stories and complaining. I think you guys know what I'm talking about here. You know when you complain about your ex-boyfriends or your crabby boss or your sloppy roommate. All those are the kind of things that are just gonna say to a guy, 'Listen, all this girl's into is complaining.' and I don't know about you, but I have not heard of a guy saying: "Guess what, I'm not this really hot to complain each other last night." So, when next time you are on a date, really take a look at where your conversation is going to. Are you keeping it interesting? And are you interested in him? Or are you just trotting out all your hard stories from the day or your past? So give this one a try: Keep your attention on this moment, see if you can keep the conversation about what's happening in the restaurant, what's going on with your friends. You don't have to keep it overly positive, but keep it in the now. That will keep your attention off your complaints and that will get your attraction and your irresistible level, up.Dating mistake No.3: It's dating to find the one instead of dating for fun. Here's what happens: Most people are so interested in trying to figure out whether or not the guy across them is actually gonna be the one? But they are not having a good time. If you are not having a good time, there's no way that you can feel if that person is absolutely gonna be the person for you. So take your attention off for figuring out if you are gonna get down the aisle and see if you can have a good time. Your irresistibility level is gonna shoot up and you're also gonna have a lot more fun on your dates. For more great tips on dating and relationships, feel free to check out my new book "Make Every Man Want You". US Defends Policy Of Detention For Juveniles in Iraq, Afghanistan美为关押伊阿未成年武装分子辩护 The ed States has defended its policy of detaining juveniles in prisons in Iraq, and Afghanistan. The issue is expected to be high on the agenda Thursday when the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child examines U.S. compliance with U.N. rules on dealing with children in armed conflict. In a report submitted to the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child, the ed States acknowledges it has detained almost 2,500 youths under the age of 18 since 2002. Almost all have been detained in Iraq under President Bush's anti-terrorism campaign. Washington says it is holding more than 500 juveniles suspected of being "unlawful enemy combatants" in detention centers in Iraq. Another 10 are being held at the U.S. base at Bagram, Afghanistan. Human Rights groups have criticized the policy, which they say violates an international treaty that deals with the Rights of the Child. Human Rights Researcher for the American Civil Liberties Union, Jennifer Turner, tells VOA, It is difficult to know whether these children are being treated properly or are being mistreated. In the case of, for instance, one of the prisoners at Guantanamo, Omar Khader, his lawyers and he have alleged that he was subjected to torture and that evidence obtained through torture is being used against him in a trial. We know that according to the ed States, 10 children are in prison at Bagram base in Afghanistan, one of the bases which is known for past cases of torture being used against prisoners there. And, we are very concerned that the U.S. is not complying with its obligations to provide rehabilitation and reintegration into society for children in prison," he said. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Detainee Issues, Sandra Hodgkinson, says the ed States does detain juveniles that are encountered on the battlefield. She says that both removes them from the dangerous effect of combat and at the same time protects American forces and other innocent civilians. We go to great lengths when we do detain juveniles to recognize the special needs of the juvenile population and to provide them with a safe environment away from hostilities. In Iraq, for example, we have developed an extensively robust program of a juvenile education center working with the Iraqi government. It is a separate school exclusively for those juveniles who have taken part in hostilities and have been recruited into armed conflict, which is something we very much oppose...We take all measures to encourage as robust a communication with their families as is possible," she said. Hodgkinson says U.S. policy is not to detain a juvenile for more than a year whenever practicable. She says it is unfortunate that children are sometimes imprisoned. But, she notes these children pose a danger. Some have been involved in planting road bombs and some have been recruited as suicide bombers. And Mr Lime ordered grapefruits, but got pineapples. Scripts:Felicia Padley and her youngest daughter Jenny Ella are picking up free helpings of pasta, vegetables and other essentials at a Food Bank in Brooklyn, New York . Padley holds down a fulltime government job but still finds it hard to feed her family of four. She needs the pantry’s help now more than ever as her weekly food bill soarsA year ago it's like about 50 or 60 dollars I would spend at a grocery store and that would include meats, that would include vegetables, fruits, cereals stuff like that. But now I’m spending like a hundred dollars.Rising food prices are hitting families across the ed States hard. Over the past year, egg prices have risen almost 44 percent, fresh milk 21 percent, and poultry and beef more than 6 percent. Economists say severe weather in the southern US and Australia is partly to blame for the jump in prices at food stores like this one behind me. But many are pointing to another culprit, energy, in particular the rising production of ethanol, a bio-fuel made from corn. There are some 130 ethanol plants now in operation across the US churning out billions of gallons of this stuff each year. The US hopes ethanol will slash demand for oil, but to make all that ethanol you need a lot of corn that has sent prices soaring 50 percent in the past year and a half. On top of ethanol there’s also the spike in the price of crude oil which makes it more expensive to transport and package foods. Some say demand for food and fuel are on a collision course that could have disastrous consequences. What we are looking at in a sense is direct competition between the 860 million people in the world who own automobiles and who want to maintain their mobility and the 2 billion poorest people in the world who simply want to survive. Others say demand may be outpacing supply now but the market will eventually adjust. We’ll continue to grow and really that’s a good thing. But people will also produce more. There’s an old saying at economics says the solution to high prices is high prices. What’s going to happen is that people are going to be provided an economic incentive to plant more. That should help solve the increase in prices. For now though, families struggle. 30 new families are walking into this Brooklyn pantry each day in need of help. This upcoming winter could be a bitter one indeed for many across the ed States finding it hard to afford the food basics.Maggie Lake, CNN New York.Notes:collision course: A course, such as that of moving objects or opposing philosophies, that will end in impact or conflict if permitted to continue unchanged or unabated200807/43418 US Offers Russia Assurance on Missiles美力争减少俄对导弹防御计划担忧 Though not backing away from plans to build a missile-defense system in central Europe, the ed States is offering a series of confidence-building measures to allay Russian concerns about the project. Senior Russian officials were informed of the measures during so-called two plus two talks in Moscow among Russian foreign and defense ministers and their visiting U.S. counterparts. Speaking at a news conference after the talks, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said the ed States elaborated on a number of measures aimed at confidence building and transparency in order to assure that new American missile facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic would not constitute a threat to Russia. We have leaned very far forward in this to provide reassurance, and with a number of measures that, obviously, would require host-country approval and reciprocity," said Gates. Moscow says a U.S. system on its doorstep would diminish Russia's strategic deterrent. The ed States insists the missiles would defend against a potential Iranian missile threat. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the U.S. proposals are serious and will be studied. He was quick to add, however, that the best way to ease Russian concerns about the proposed system would be not to build it at all. But Lavrov notes the firm U.S. intention to establish the system. Despite disagreement on the substance of this issue, the Russian official says the ed States recognizes that Russia has legitimate concerns and has offered proposals to eliminate or allay them. Lavrov said participants in the talks did not decide how to proceed after next year's expiration of 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. He noted that any new agreement would be legally binding, but that much work remains before it can be reached. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it is important to recognize the bth of U.S.-Russian relations. Both sides worked out a strategic framework to govern those relations in the future. Rice said the document would reflect agreements aly made or which need to be developed. For instance, global nuclear terrorism, [and] concerning the two presidents' [Vladimir Putin and George W. Bush] interest in developing a way to get assured fuel supply for countries that may wish to have civil nuclear power without the proliferation risk of enrichment and reprocessing," said Rice. The ed States said it would provide written copies of all proposals by the end of the day, which the Russian side said it would carefully study. Secretaries Rice and Gates met earlier for private talks with several Russian opposition and business leaders. Participants included former member of parliament Vladimir Ryzhkov and Yabloko Party leader Grigory Yavlinsky. Former chess champion Garry Kasparov and former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov say they were not invited.
