In his Middle East policy speech, President Barack Obama said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad faces the choice of either leading a democratic transition in his country or getting out of the way. The comment came a day after the U.S. administration imposed sanctions on the Syrian leader and key aides. President Barack Obama's comments stopped short of an outright demand Syria's leader step down. But the remarks were another sign of diminishing U.S. patience with President Bashar al-Assad, whose reform promises have been contradicted by an ongoing brutal crackdown on protesters. The Syrian people have shown their courage in demanding a transition to democracy," said Obama. "President Assad now has a choice: he can lead that transition, or get out of the way. The Syrian government must stop shooting demonstrators and allow peaceful protests, release political prisoners and stop unjust arrests, they must allow human rights monitors to have access to cities like Daraa, and start a serious dialogue to advance a democratic transition." President Obama said Syria has followed its ally Iran and sought assistance from Tehran in what he termed the "tactics of suppression." He said that speaks to the "hypocrisy of the Iranian regime," which he says professes support for the rights of protesters abroad, but suppresses its people at home. Anti-Aging Pilates Turning back the hands of time without going under a knife You’re fighting the hands of time to get a younger look? If going under the knife is just not your cup of tea, try Pilates. Instructor Linda Farrell says it’s like the fountain of / youth. “Pilates is all about developing core strength in the trunk, and this helps promote a healthy spine; it’s about learning how to breathe deeply to reduce stress, and it’s about learning how to strengthen the muscles, but you also look fantastic.” And that’s exactly how 54-year-old Yvonne Martin feels. She’s been doing Pilates for over five years. And says she’s noticed youthful changes. “It feels about 20. I’m standing straighter, I’m taller. I feel like my muscles, my whole body’s longer, my waist is really tight; my abs(abdominal muscles) are incredible. I have to say, they are pretty good. And I think it’s due to the Pilates work.” So how can you get these anti-ageing results too? Linda has some suggestions. Thinking of liposuction? Linda says “No need”. “I have a wonderful exercise called Heel Beats . We do it lying on the stomach and it actually helps lift your butt. And my students love it because while they are doing it, they actually feel their butts lifting and they feel those muscles working.”Thinking you need a breast lift? Think again. “The first thing I like to do is get people to stand up and to open up in here, and then I offer two wonderful exercises. One is called chest expansion,no pun intended. And the other is swan dive which works on opening the chest and strengthening the muscles in the back, which is so important to prevent that slumping.” Need a tummy tuck? No way! I worked with a Pilates course exercise which is really wonderful. You simply pull your belly / button in and lift up like you are wearing a little corset and you have a flatter belly and a narrower waistline. Linda says age doesn’t matter. You can start your Pilates workout at any point in your life. And with two to three days a week, you are sure to start seeing and feeling a difference. The delay comes as a disappointment to many who looked forward to the launch as a milestone of national pride. Excitement was mounting Wednesday at South Korea's Naro Space Center, as the time to launch dropped below eight minutes. Then, at seven minutes and 56 seconds, the digital clock froze because technicians decided not to proceed. Lee Sang-mok, a policy director at South Korea's Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, says South Korea's first indigenous space mission will have to wait. He says a pressure valve on one of the rocket's fuel tanks showed a drop. That idea was set aside because of the strong logistical momentum behind the launch. Many South Koreans view the launch in terms of national pride, as a milestone of the country's progress in its indigenous space program. China does its bit to calm worries about the world economy A RUNNER cannot sprint all the time, noted Sheng Laiyun of China’s National Bureau of Statistics, after the release of China’s new growth figures on July 13th; he must pace himself so that he can run better later. Over the past four quarters China’s economy has recorded what runners call “even splits”, keeping a steady pace, lap after lap. It grew by 9.5% in the second quarter (year on year), having grown at a similar rate in the previous three. The figures helped allay fears of a hard landing for China’s economy. But they raised some doubts about whether the economy is landing at all. Consumer prices rose by 6.4%. in the year to June. The economy’s pace may be steady. But is it too fast to sustain? 但是是否过快难以为继了呢?201107/144852 Rising food pricesCNN's Maggie Lake looks at how rising food prices are hitting U.S. families hardFelicia Padley and her youngest daughter Jenny Ella are picking up free helpings of pasta, vegetables and other essentials at a Food Bank in Brooklyn, New York . Padley holds down a fulltime government job but still finds it hard to feed her family of four. She needs the pantry’s help now more than ever as her weekly food bill soarsA year ago it's like about 50 or 60 dollars I would spend at a grocery store and that would include meats, that would include vegetables, fruits, cereals stuff like that. But now I’m spending like a hundred dollars.Rising food prices are hitting families across the ed States hard. Over the past year, egg prices have risen almost 44 percent, fresh milk 21 percent, and poultry and beef more than 6 percent. Economists say severe weather in the southern US and Australia is partly to blame for the jump in prices at food stores like this one behind me. But many are pointing to another culprit, energy, in particular the rising production of ethanol, a bio-fuel made from corn. There are some 130 ethanol plants now in operation across the US churning out billions of gallons of this stuff each year. The US hopes ethanol will slash demand for oil, but to make all that ethanol you need a lot of corn that has sent prices soaring 50 percent in the past year and a half. On top of ethanol there’s also the spike in the price of crude oil which makes it more expensive to transport and package foods. Some say demand for food and fuel are on a collision course that could have disastrous consequences. What we are looking at in a sense is direct competition between the 860 million people in the world who own automobiles and who want to maintain their mobility and the 2 billion poorest people in the world who simply want to survive. Others say demand may be outpacing supply now but the market will eventually adjust. We’ll continue to grow and really that’s a good thing. But people will also produce more. There’s an old saying at economics says the solution to high prices is high prices. What’s going to happen is that people are going to be provided an economic incentive to plant more. That should help solve the increase in prices. For now though, families struggle. 30 new families are walking into this Brooklyn pantry each day in need of help. This upcoming winter could be a bitter one indeed for many across the ed States finding it hard to afford the food basics.Maggie Lake, CNN New York.Notes:collision course: A course, such as that of moving objects or opposing philosophies, that will end in impact or conflict if permitted to continue unchanged or unabated02/61977福州治输卵管粘连专业医院福州博爱医院检查输卵管怎么样
