Scientists studying Alzheimer#39;s have found that staying moderately active can lead to healthier brain functions in those at risk of developing the disease, potentially giving us another clue how to beat the condition. In particular the research looked at glucose metabolism, the process that gives brain cells the right amount of fuel, and that also happens to break down with the onset of Alzheimer#39;s. Scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that study participants who spent at more than an hour per day taking part in moderate physical exercise showed greater levels and healthier levels of glucose metabolism than those who didn#39;t. ;This study has implications for guiding exercise #39;prescriptions#39; that could help protect the brain from Alzheimer#39;s disease,; says one of the team, Ryan Dougherty.“这项研究有助于指导运动‘处方’,保护大脑免受阿兹海默症的影响,”研究团队里的Ryan Dougherty说道。;While many people become discouraged about Alzheimer#39;s disease because they feel there#39;s little they can do to protect against it, these results suggest that engaging in moderate physical activity may slow down the progression of the disease.;“很多人对于阿兹海默症感到绝望,因为他们觉得自己无法避免患上这种病,但是研究结果表明,适度运动或许能减缓该疾病的发生。”The study used accelerometers to measure a week#39;s worth of physical activity for 93 middle-aged volunteers, all at high genetic risk of Alzheimer#39;s but so far showing no cognitive signs of the disease. Physical activity was split into light (the equivalent of walking slowly), moderate (a brisk walk), and vigorous (a strenuous run). This collected data was then compared against glucose metabolism levels in the brain. Using a special imaging technique called 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) to trace glucose metabolism, the researchers found healthier patterns in moderately active patients in all areas of the brain under observation. The link is enough for the researchers to suggest physical exercise is an ;important contributor; to brain health for those at risk of Alzheimer#39;s, though they also stress that further research is required to establish how staying active might be connected to the chances of developing Alzheimer#39;s later in life. Plenty of previous studies have found associations between exercise and improved memory, and there#39;s a growing pile of evidence that exercise boosts brain power as well as other parts of the body. Now we just need to figure out how Alzheimer#39;s fits into all this. A small 2016 study found that exercise could be one factor in reversing the effects of Alzheimer#39;s, alongside changes to diet and sleep habits, and a personalised program of vitamins and other drugs.2016年的一项小研究发现,运动可能是扭转阿兹海默症影响的一个因素,其他因素包括饮食和睡眠习惯上的变化,以及维生素和其他药物的个性化方案。Everyday exercises such as gardening or walking are aly recommended for those suffering from dementia – as well as just about everyone else – but scientists are still trying to pin down the details. According to one of the researchers, Ozioma Okonkwo, ongoing research continues to take a closer look at how exercise could perhaps protect the brain from the onset of Alzheimer#39;s off the back of this new study. ;Seeing a quantifiable connection between moderate physical activity and brain health is an exciting first step,; he says. The findings have been published in the Journal of Alzheimer#39;s Disease. Article/201301/218242

Eric J. Kuhn (Intern) gives expert advice on: How should I prepare for an internship interview? How should I prepare for an internship interview? It#39;s time to really start looking into this company, and not only the company, but the broader umbrella. What does this company do? What does it fall under? Be smart and know things about your industry. You#39;re not going to know everything, and they don#39;t expect you to know everything. If you want a job in politics, start going to political websites, start knowing who#39;s who. You don#39;t want to go in and work for Mitt Romney and when they ask you who Fred Thompson is you say “That Law and Order actor?” You want to know who he is. You want to know that he#39;s a Republican and not a Democrat, especially if you want to work for a Republican and not a Democrat. If you#39;re applying to be an intern for a Democrat, you#39;d better know what the democratic issues are. You#39;d better know that that thing with the rotunda and the woman on top is the Capital building because I swear to God, people don#39;t know that. Make flash cards for yourself. Be prepared to go into an interview knowing about the company, but also knowing about the field and the broader spectrum of what the company does. What I like to say is create tons of Google alerts, for the company, for maybe the person you want to work for, and for the industry. Every night you will have a Google alert waiting for you and you can just browse through it and absorb it. Osmosis. Get it into your system. Get the juices flowing, because you don#39;t want to sit in an interview and look like a moron and have nothing to talk about. The other thing you want to do is make sure that you have questions for them. There#39;s nothing worse than when they say, and they will say, “Do you have any questions for me?” Thanks for watching How To Prepare For An Internship Interview感谢收看“怎样为实习面试做准备”视频节目。 Article/201209/201232
